Avondale Nursery

Welcome to our 2024 Website

Avondale Nursery and The Library Garden is a family-run business situated just outside Coventry (directions here). Here you will find rare and unusual perennial plants from spring until autumn, with extensive collections of Geum, Geranium, Crocosmia, Agapanthus, Salvia and Helenium.

Plants on your wish list can be seen growing in our Library Garden when you visit. We’re happy to reserve plants for collection, and we also offer a limited mail order service on selected plants.

Our Plant Collections

We are National Collection Holders for three plant families, Symphyotrichum (Aster) novae-angliae, Anemone nemorosa and Sanguisorba. The first to flower are our Wood Anemones which will be on display in March. Our Sanguisorbas are in flower throughout the summer, and over 50 varieties of Michaelmas Daisies are on show in our display garden in September. Most plants in the collections are available to buy in the nursery. Take a look at our Collections Page packed with information and photos dedicated to all of our collections.

Mail Order & Availability

This year we will be continuing our online plant shop, offering a limited number of small plants for sale. The range will be constantly evolving so click here to see what is currently available.

We won’t offer mail order for most plants, but you can send us a list of your requirements, and if they’re available, we’ll put them together for you to collect at the nursery. If you’re visiting the nursery for a particular plant, it’s advisable to phone or email beforehand to avoid disappointment, especially later in the season

Environmental Policy

We are very conscious of our environmental impact and do all we can to limit our carbon footprint. We use peat-free compost when potting and rely on biological and organic controls to limit the amount of pest damage to our plants. We are very aware of the excessive use of plastics in the nursery industry so we re-use and recycle as much as possible and we aspire to use only recyclable and compostable pots. In addition, all of our carrier bags are made from a home compostable starch product.
